Entrance of the Ladies of KamehamehaIt came in a dream……The ladies of Kamehameha. First his mother Kekuiapoiwa, then his Kapu Hānai, Kahaopulani, and his sacred wife, Keopulani. All standing with Kamehameha
on his special day. To honor him is also to honor these women that held great importance in his life. |
Sunrise Ceremony - 5:30amThe opening of our celebration begins with prayers, the sounding of the conch and drums. As our cultural practitioners set the purpose and intentions of the day. If you know the protocol chants please join us.
During this time there will also be Hālaus, organizations and individuals that will present chants and hula for our Ali’i. The Ceremony is open to the public. All we ask is to be in reverence as this is not a show. As one of the protocols our practitioners bless and consecrate the statue grounds, we ask to please be mindful of the roped boundaries. We also ask for the public to be mindful of all audio recordings, please respect the presenter(s) as there may chants that are sacred to an individual or Hālau. Procession of the Royal Societies - 8:00amAt 8:00am the Procession of the Royal Societies will start to make their way to the Statue.

Lei Draping Ceremony - 9:00am
After the Procession of the Royal Societies, the Lei Draping Ceremony will begin. Our lei drapers uses the traditional lei poles to dress our Ali‘i. Each lei is carefully and skillfully placed on the King’s arm. No hand shall be raise above and Ali‘i‘s head and no lei’s shall sit on his sacred cloak.
